Privacy notice
Version 2026-10-24. Covers the Metagnition website (metagnition.com) and the two products, SemiTrace by Metagnition and BESS Intelligence by Metagnition.
1. Who we are
The website and the products are run by Metagnition Research (“we”, “us”). Metagnition Research is a business name used by an individual sole trader based in India. It is not a registered company. We decide how and why the personal information described here is used.
Contact for every privacy question, request or complaint: info@metagnition.com. This address also serves as our grievance contact under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
2. The website
The website has no forms, accounts, analytics, advertising or social-media trackers, and sets no cookies of its own (see the cookie notice).
Cloudflare delivers and protects the site. To do that it processes technical request data such as your IP address, browser type and the page requested.
If you email info@metagnition.com, we receive your email address, your name if you give it, and what you write. We use it to reply to you.
3. Information we collect in the products
Sign-in. You sign in with Google, or, in BESS Intelligence, with a one-time code we email to you. With Google sign-in, Google tells us your email address, name and profile picture link; we never receive your Google password. Neither product has a password of its own.
Account and profile.
- SemiTrace: your email address and an organisation name when you start a trial; optionally a display name and your language setting.
- BESS Intelligence: your email address and, optionally, your name, display name, profile picture link, country and company; and, if you complete the optional onboarding step, your role and market.
Trial. Each product allows one free trial per email address, and SemiTrace also allows one per organisation. To enforce this after an account is deleted we keep a salted one-way hash of the trial email address, not the address itself.
Subscription and billing. Your plan, billing interval, billing-period dates, subscription status, whether a cancellation is scheduled, the identifiers Dodo Payments gives your customer record and subscription, and a history of these events. We do not receive or store payment card numbers.
Terms acceptance. When you start a trial or subscribe, we record which version of the terms you accepted, when, and for which account.
What you save. Watchlists in both products; in BESS Intelligence also alert rules, the alerts sent to you, and saved views.
Usage and security records. Each export (who ran it, what, how many rows, when), account actions such as data exports and account deletion, and the service emails we send you (recipient, type, delivery status).
Browser storage. Sign-in cookies (SemiTrace) or local storage (BESS Intelligence), and a few interface settings. Details are in the cookie notice.
4. Emails we send
Service emails only: sign-in codes and links, account confirmations, trial notices, billing notices including a reminder 7 days before an annual plan renews, and the alert emails you set up, which go only to your own address. We do not send marketing email.
5. Why we use your information, and on what basis

We do not sell personal information, use it for advertising, or make automated decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects.
6. Information about other people in the products
The products compile market information about companies, projects, policy and procurement from public and other lawful sources. A source document may name a person in a professional role, such as an executive quoted in a filing; the name then appears only as part of that source record. Neither product keeps contact records for named individuals.
To read and classify public documents, the products use AI language-model providers (OpenAI, Google Gemini, DeepSeek and OpenRouter, depending on the task). They receive public-source documents only. Your account information, searches and saved items are not sent to them.

Dodo Payments collects your payment details, billing address or country and any tax information directly in its hosted checkout, as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
8. International transfers
Product account data is stored in India. Cloudflare, Resend, Google and Dodo Payments may process information in other countries, including the United States. Where UK or EU data protection law applies to a transfer, we rely on the provider’s standard contractual clauses (and the UK addendum) or an adequacy decision.
9. How long we keep it

10. Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what personal information we hold and how we use it, and give you a copy;
- correct, complete or update it;
- delete it, where we no longer need it or you withdraw a consent we relied on;
- restrict or object to how we use it, and give it to you in a portable form (UK/EU);
- in India, nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to.
In BESS Intelligence you can also export your data and delete your account yourself on the Account page.
Email info@metagnition.com from the address on your account. We reply within one month.
If you are not satisfied, you can complain to a data protection authority: in India, the Data Protection Board of India (after first raising it with us); in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office; in the EU, the authority where you live or work.
11. Children
The products are for professional use and are not for anyone under 18.
12. Security
Each product keeps its data in its own database, with row-level access rules on personal records. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest by the hosting platform. SemiTrace sign-in cookies are sent only over secure connections and cannot be read by page scripts. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the authorities where the law requires.
13. Changes
Each version of this notice has the identifier shown at the top. We will email account holders before a material change takes effect.
